TERRACE, B.C. — The Terrace landfill and Kitimat-Stikine regional waste-management facility have received provincial funding for upgrades.

The Government of British Columbia is providing $5 million to the City of Terrace for remediation at the recently closed Terrace landfill in order to meet compliance standards, reads a news release.

The funding will help the landfill manage leachate, solid waste and gases.

The Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine is receiving $3 million from the province to expand the Forceman Ridge Waste Management Facility to increase capacity.

“This work has been identified by our staff as our number one priority,” said Terrace Mayor Sean Bujtas in the release.
