The Nisga’a Nation has secured funding from BC Housing’s Indigenous Housing Fund for three new apartment projects, adding 67 affordable rental homes to Nisga’a Lands.

In the Village of Laxgalts’ap, a new Density Relief Project will provide 30 bachelor to two-bedroom units designed for individuals, couples, small families, and Elders capable of independent living. This development, located in the new 2-Alder Drive subdivision, will include amenity space, community garden plots, and storage for building materials.

Meanwhile, the Village of Gitwinksihlkw will see the creation of 15 adaptable and fully accessible one- to two-bedroom units next to the health center on Ts’oohl Ts’ap Avenue. This project will feature large gathering spaces, a cultural kitchen, and community garden plots.

In New Aiyansh, 22 units ranging from one to three bedrooms will be built beside a future Residential Care project on Gosnell Place. This complex will cater to families, individuals, and Elders and will also include amenity space, community gardens, and storage for scooters and wheelchairs.

Nisga’a Nation President Eva Clayton expressed her excitement, stating that this is a significant step in addressing housing challenges in the community.
