DAAJING GIIDS, B.C. — A new wastewater treatment plant near the Village of Daajing Giids in Haida Gwaii just received a $20-million investment from the Government of British Columbia.
In a news release, the province writes the investment will help “ensure safe access to fish and shellfish for the Haida Nation and support their aquaculture interests in the area.”
President of the Haida Nation, Gaagwiis, said the investment is welcomed.
“We send our congratulations to the community of Daajing Giids and look forward to seeing the benefits both these projects will bring to the sustainability and health of Haida Gwaii,” Gaagwiis said in the release.
B.C. also noted Haida Gwaii is getting closer to completing its transition from diesel-generated electricity to 100 per cent renewable power after the completion of the TII Yahda energy project near the Sandspit Airport.
