There has been a change in the media structure in Northern BC. What is happening here is consistent with the rest of the world where local print journalism held by large companies have realized that the ability to have a strong business operation is difficult
Local newspapers are disappearing from the landscape and are slowly being replaced by local independent variations that are coming on board slowly,
The original online news site in the north was Opinion 250 (250 News) was operational for 12 years ending in September 2017.
This was followed by Energetic City https://energeticcity.ca/ which has been operating since 2004 along with Moose FM and this venture is based out of Fort St John with their focus the Peace Region.
Recent news website serving the North include
The Alaska Highway News https://www.thealaskahighwaynews.com/
Tumbler Ridge Lines https://tumblerridgelines.com/
Prince George Daily News https://pgdailynews.ca/
CFNR Radio https://www.cfnrfm.ca/news/
PJXM News https://pjxmnews.me/
There were a couple of news sites in Prince Rupert and I remember another in Kitimat but not much else in the past 3 years. There maybe others that are Facebook only, also small coffee shop editions but no real news.
And of course us at Northern BC Business!
