FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Giulianna Marino, one of September’s Bold Women of the Month, wants to be a positive force and example for women throughout the community.
Marino moved to Fort St. John at 16 more than 10 years ago with her family, opening and operating Blooming Beauty Spa since December 2021.
“As I’ve gone through my journey of my health issues, I ended up getting into aesthetics, not really knowing what I was going to do with it, and I had an instructor who said to me ‘take this and utilize it,’ and so I did.”
Completing a skincare course, Marino opened her business as a niche service focused on medical-grade products, taking monthly classes ever since to stay informed and up to date in a constantly evolving industry.
“I pride myself in uplifting other women, helping them with their health and skin journey, and it’s meant the world to me,” Marino said
The business idea brought structure and stability to her life. Marino explained her struggles during childhood, both in foster care and her health, and says she is very proud of how far she and her business have come.
Marino and her partner, who also came from the foster care system, both intend to be advocates for children in foster care.
“You have to want to change your life for the better, and it’s not easy. You have to get up every day, and you’re not going to forget the things that have happened to you, you have to make them into a positive as much as you can,” Marino said.

Marino hopes to be a role model for young women in similar situations as her childhood, showing them they deserve to be successful.
“I hope I’m making an impact within our community, I hope I’m a voice for people, a safe space for everybody.”
Marino spoke about the numerous people in her life who she feels helped drive her towards success in life with boldness and confidence, including her grandparents and mother.
“They really pushed me to know that I deserve to have success in my life, and happiness and financial freedom,” Marino said.
“Being bold means being authentically you. We are meant to be different, and we are meant to be beautiful. We are all beautiful in whatever our concept of that is,”
