BC Hydro to introduce rebates for rooftop solar, battery storage installations

RICHMOND, B.C. – BC Hydro will provide rebates for installation of rooftop solar and battery storage systems in support of British Columbia’s new clean-energy strategy released June 27.

Eligible homeowners can receive BC Hydro rebates totalling as much as $10,000 for installing a qualified solar photovoltaic (PV) system and battery-storage system together, a release said.

“At BC Hydro, we have a critical role in supporting the clean-energy transition in B.C., and we know that investing in our system today puts us on the path of meeting tomorrow’s needs. That’s why we’re taking a series of decisive actions to source the clean electricity needed, build out our infrastructure to meet future demand, and invest in electricity efficiency to provide our customers with more choice and flexibility through new programs, tools and incentives that will help them save energy and money,” BC Hydro president and CEO Chris O’Riley said in a statement.

BC Hydro will also introduce targeted rebates for apartment buildings, schools, community organizations, local governments, small businesses, social-housing providers and Indigenous communities, which could go up to $50,000 to $150,000 based on the individual customer, the release said.

The rebates will be available later in July.
